Today, O’Brien Garrett has a staff of 40 across two offices in Washington, DC and New Orleans, and leads consulting engagements with clients around fundraising, research and messaging, analytics, and digital advocacy. ABOUT THE POSITION:
O’Brien Garrett seeks a Director of Operations and Talent to build, oversee, and maintain a set of internal functions that will empower the team to produce exceptional results for clients. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director of Operations and Talent will be a key member of the leadership team and manage both operational and talent functions.

Primary responsibilities include:
Oversee all administrative and operations activities to ensure smooth day-to-day functioning, acting as chief problem-solver to resolve challenges that may arise
Identify opportunities for operational improvements, including ways O’Brien Garrett can streamline systems and processes (e.g. accounts billable system)
Ensure O’Brien Garrett is in legal compliance by maintaining an open line with lawyers, proactively flagging issues, and monitoring all local, state, and federal regulations
Oversee O’Brien Garrett’s facilities needs, ensuring staff have the tools, technology, and environment to provide best-in-class service to their clients
Partner with the leadership team to prepare O’Brien Garrett staff for an increasingly flexible and collaborative work environment by providing infrastructure conducive to remote work
Drive comprehensive strategic talent acquisition, development, and retention plans to meet the organization’s human capital needs; provide leadership and guidance on talent management to members of O’Brien Garrett’s staff
Refine and improve O’Brien Garrett’s performance evaluation system to ensure all staff are equipped to excel in their roles and develop professionally
Ensure that managers and staff members are regularly engaging in feedback conversations and that managers are continuously coaching and mentoring team members
Oversee Human Resources processes and decisions, including evaluating current benefits package (health insurance, retirement plans, and more)
Lead and manage the administrative team, including an Accounting Manager, Administrative Assistant, and the Manager of Administration and HR and hire additional staff, as appropriate
Serve as a member the senior management team and help to continuously improve O’Brien Garrett’s work
Serve as a thought-partner to the CEO in assessing the organization’s long- and short-term operational and talent needs
Ensure that the talent and operations teams engages with a spirit of collaboration and with a customer service orientation with staff
Represent O’Brien Garrett to internal and external stakeholders as appropriate, exemplifying the culture and values of the organization
Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications:
At least seven years’ professional experience, with a track record of managing small teams
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire others and to serve as a thought partner to O’Brien Garrett’s CEO and leadership team
Operational mindset, with a passion for driving even the most challenging efforts forward; an ability to identify organizational priorities and make strategic decisions
Strong execution skills with the ability to to assess operational systems and drive changes that maximize efficiency
Strategic talent and HR acumen coupled with a deep belief in the importance of human capital
Demonstrated success in supporting and developing people as both a manager and a coach
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive relationships with diverse stakeholders; proven ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with senior executives
Excellent communication skills, with an ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively
Solutions-oriented, with a strong customer-service approach
Approachable but firm, willing to adapt and be flexible and handle a high-volume of work in a fast-paced environment
